You Can't Beat A Grumpy Face

No matter what happens, I always come back to a grumpy face.
It's what drew me to drawing canines.
I love to imagine what they are thinking.

This is Alice, she needs no fuss.
She's pretty fantastic as she is.

The Admirer - Mantelpiece Meet-Ups

Someone is showing the signs of being slightly smitten by another.
It's a confused situation and the admired party is not sure as to his feelings.
Watch this space.

The Disagreement - Mantelpiece Meet-Up

A disagreement has occurred. And it's happened too many times.
I'm not sure there is any going back from this point on.
Somebody needs to make a decision.

The Loved And Once Loved - Objects Of Desire, Of Sorts

There's a massive draw towards vintage for me of late.
I've always been a collector/hoarder of tat. Well tat to some, glorious objects to me.

Years ago I did a series of drawings of ornaments/objects I owned, with lots of white space.
I have always been a fan of lots of white space.
Perhaps the portraits I'm doing of humans, has aided this return.
Today, completing this drawing, and two long tailed tits sitting less than two feet on my window sill have made me very happy.

Knowing When To Stop.

Morning,
How's the week been? Good I hope.

This week has had me drawing humans, that's right, human beings!
It's for a project I'm working on which has to be kept under wraps for now, but I will divulge when I can. Promise.
The portraits I've been working on are all very simple in colour and line. Kind of the way I like it really, believe it or not. David Hockey's line drawings are what first got excited about line and capturing the human form, and I always start my work with line.

So that got me thinking later in the day, as to what drew me to canines to start with. Capturing the character is what it's all about.
So for this drawing I'm keeping it simple.
Sometimes you just need to know when to stop.

Come on Spring!!! - Inspired by Hockney

So yesterday I went to see David Hockney's "A Bigger Picture" at The Royal Academy.
After watching The Culture Show's programme about the exhibition and on hearing Hockney talk about the work, I was truly inspired!
It made me realise how much I love colour and pattern, and made me want to get back in touch with a side that has been in the background for a while.
Not forgotten about, just put away for a bit.

So armed with a cheap set of felt tip pens, some paper and a camera I've began doodling!
Very enjoyable too.
Trying to invite Spring into my week, although grey, cloudy and wet outside!
But so much to be happy about.
Happy Wednesday All. x x
Listening to this as I draw!
