Embroidery Magazine Feature

Hello there!

Something rather lovely happened last week.
My work was featured in Embroidery Magazine.
I've been a regular reader of the publication since I was a student, and to get a mention in there is a bit of a treat.

The editor Jo Hall works passionately to create a varied read with a fantastic range of artwork featured. So a big thanks to Jo for asking me to be a part.

Also to be interviewed by the rather fabulous Ian Wilson was something of an event. With Poppaea the parrot singing and talking to us from the corner of the room and collections of glorious ornaments and objects decorating the walls and shelves. Ian clearly is someone that has a fascination with the curious and a man after my own heart!

A lovely way to start July.

Catching Up On Here! 3 Fabulous Commissions

It's been a while! Sorry, got busy after returning from New York.
(which I will post about very soon, it was very good)

Before I do that I need to share with you these 3 gorgeous commissions that happened before I went.
I was even able to deliver them by hand, in NYC!

Sadly two of these beautiful canines are no longer with us. I know they will be greatly missed, and I also know that the portraits will be totally treasured.
As I've said many times before I'm always very honoured to be given the duty of capturing memorial portraits. To be trusted with them is something I never take for granted.

Thank you Emma, I loved having them as models.
So here's Koko, Winnie and Valentino.

Mother And Daughter Custom Canines

This week I've had the delight of two commissions.
Meet Koko, the mum and Winnie, the daughter.
These were commissioned from a fabulous artist and designer Emma Schonenberg.

Apparently she has two more gorgeous American Bulldogs from the same family.
Slightly jealous.

Vintage Poodle Tin Portrait - Available Soon x

This week as well as working on commissions I've been doing some packing for the big move from Bath to Oxford!
It's meant I've had some time to appreciate some of my collected tat that I can at times overlook.
These vintage tins with canines on them are just a few of those things.
It inspired me to draw a vintage tin poodle portrait : )

There's plenty of scope for added kitschness with these.
I look forward to be able to offer them very soon.

Jesse, The Canine That Bounced Back

This is Jesse, I was inspired to draw the little fella after I read about his story via the fabulous Robyn Arouty Photography. Robyn witnessed Jesse being run over, and herself and a few other wonderful people got him to the vets and are helping get him back to health.

What was thought as touch and go at first, has turned around, and tails are now wagging. Lovely news for the weekend x x x

Stay tuned for more updates and some other news ; ) x
Oh and that rather fabulous collar Jesse is wearing is by the rather fantastic Addison Logan x

A Classy Canine

Recently I was contacted by a lady with a request for not 1 but 5 portraits.
I was obviously delighted to take them on.
It was a little bit different from my normal canine or feline commission, as it required me to illustrate some horses. They were a total delight to do, and have now been received and the customer is also delighted with them.
Along with the horses I got to draw Bess, twice.
This is her in Jubilee style. A true classy canine.

Have a fabulous weekend, and I'll see you on the other side : D x x x

Feeling A Bit Like Spring!

Hello,
It was so nice to feel the suns rays at the weekend. Very welcome indeed.
A trip to Bristol meant a glorious walk around the city and a trip to the RWA to see the Reigning Cats and Dogs show.
If you get a chance, pop along, there's some super size cats that are well worth a look.
And on Sunday a walk round Bath. Popping in to a few galleries along the way and taking a peek at a favourite cabinet of dog ornaments in the Victoria Gallery.

So here's to plenty more of that and the return of nicer weather.

Bess below agrees totally ; D x x

Canine Couples = Dog Milk - The Scratchbook

Recently I was asked to take part in Dog Milks, The Scratchbook feature, which of course I was delighted to except. As it was February, the obvious theme was Valentines Day.

I've always had a bit of an obsession in imagining some of my ornaments having relationships! That broken china poodle having a fling with the fair maiden, the ceramic bird chatting up kitsch cat. I could go on : )

So it really wasn't hard for me to imaging the canine friends of Capree, (the managing editor of Dog Milk ) having relationships with other pooches. The following stories then generated.
Smash and Coco Bean ( Chic Sprinkles ) announcing their internet love affair, and Wrigley confessing his love for Dee ( Deisel and Juice ).

Cheers to Capree and Dog Milk for being such good fun to work with, and for all canines involved for being such great models x x x

Working With Waggo

I recently had the utter delight of being asked to produce some greeting cards for Waggo.
Waggo are a Brooklyn based company founded by Regine Raab, who previously worked at several fashion houses. This is very obvious by the great style that Waggo has on all it's products.

"As an avid shopper for her dog, Benny, she realized there were some things missing from her favorite pet stores. Surrounded by generic merchandise and boilerplate bone and paw print designs, she thought there must be a better way. She decided to develop products that provide style and comfort for her and her dog."

I can happily say they were a joy to work with, and are thrilled with the outcome.
Having spent 5 weeks in Brooklyn a few years back, I'd love to return, enjoy New York again and meet some people that I've had the pleasure to work with.

Maybe next year!!

A Slightly Vampish Canine!

This is Churri, a commission from a little while back.
I thought she was worth sharing as she's sort of vampish!

I'm not sure she would agree, but there is no denying that those teeth, ears and black hoodie make her look a little bat like.
Either way she is great, and with tons of character.
The perfect model for my Halloween Deal : ) x

Celebration Commission - Eddie The Ring Bearer

Hello. Friday Again!
Where did that week go?

I've just finished a commission as a gift for a recently married couple.
Their dog Eddie was the ring bearer, sweet!

It's winging it's way to them now.
So I hope that they, and of course the gorgeous model Eddie, are pleased with their gift.

Have a lovely Friday.

Ceramic Dogs = Nice things to draw

Last week, was busy but good, topped off with a lovely relaxing weekend.
I managed to squeeze in a bit of drawing.
Ceramic dogs never fail to get me in the mood for sketching.
That and a bit of doodling, and I'm pretty happy.

So here is a ceramic dog, wistfully thinking about flea market goodies : )

If yo haven't got time to go to a flea market, you can't go far wrong by taking a look at Growler London's website.
Very nice indeed x x
