Canines In A Floral Garden

I'm a big fan of florals and canines, if you hadn't noticed!
So what better to combine the two things, using a more floral doodle type of garden.

These guys are very happy lapping up the sunshine and enjoying some quiet time.

I've just added them to my Etsy shop.
So if you know someone who's a pug, whippet, or dachshund fan, and likes a bit of kitschness it might be for them. Or if you fancy brightening up your walls then it might be for you : ) x

Land Of Nod Art Institute As Curated By Oh Joy! (featured Me)

I am so delighted to be able to share this news.

Last year I was contacted by The Land Of Nod in regards to their LON Art Institute.
They were working with Oh Joy! who was designing a new collection for them and curating the Art Institute Gallery, and one of my prints was selected (bottom left)!!

To say I was thrilled might be an understatement. I've been a fan of both for a while.

Last year two of my prints were featured in the Oh Joy! Studio makeover as designed by Emily Henderson, as if that wasn't enough I then get contacted by LON.

It's always a great confidence boost to get work selected by companies and artists you already admire.
So this felt like a double whammy!

Thanks to both LON and Oh Joy! for always providing great inspiration and joyous work.

To celebrate this feature, I've created some new Floral Doodle's and spring prints to my Etsy shop, as well as a few canines ; )

How was I so behind with the times.

As well as getting new stock ready for my shop I'm managing to still get some time on the machine.
This is a new doodle taking inspiration from the attached print.

Oh Joy Studio - Silly Cat and Floral Doodle Get A Feature!

Ok, so firstly, I've been slow posting about this, but it doesn't mean I'm any the less excited still!
Oh Joy! recently moved in to a new studio and had the fabulous Emily Henderson work her interior design magic on it.
I was totally thrilled to see not one but two of my prints were part of the gallery wall in the 'Living Room'.
Floral Doodle 2 and Cat Amongst The Flowers were the prints picked for the feature wall.

Some of the other work I was proud to be displayed with come from talented folk like -
Ashley Percival, glorious photographer, Bonnie Tsang, abstract print by Jenny Vorwaller, the wonderful florals of Lulie Wallace, and Joel Penkmans 'Fab' print to name just a few!

To celebrate this nice thing I'm offering 15% off on all giclee prints in my Etsy store, till the end of September.
Just enter the code OHJOY1 at the checkout.

Flower Power

Totally thrilled to have been pinned by Oh Joy! onto her 'Domaine Virtual Show House' board, and also another print on her 'Studio Inspiration'.
Both pins are of florals, Floral Doodle - with Yellow Stripes and Blooming Wednesday below.
Due to enquiries about this illustration, as of next week it will be a print : D x
I had planned to, this just gave me the nudge I needed.

Another lovely surprise was a feature of my Florals on A Lovely Lark, thank you Lauren : )

Cheers to all that are popping by here and my shop.
And thank you also to Joy, you gave me a boost when I first started out, and it was fabulous for me.
Have a lovely day.

Dogster Feature And Why The Name Studio Legohead

Last week I had the lovely surprise of being featured on Dogster.
I wasn’t expecting the write up on my work, and neither was I expecting such a glowing review.
Incongruous was the word used to describe my work. The dictionary meaning is ‘not in harmony or keeping with the surroundings or other aspects of something’.
I take this as a compliment.

I never set out to draw and embroider dogs, it just happened. (I was in a creative block, bored of drawing flowers. I saw a dog in a hat and thought I wonder what type of personality he would have as a human, and so it began.) Neither did I intend for the name Studio Legohead to stick around. But both did. Rather unexpectedly.
So, Studio Legohead, where did it come from? I feel I owe an explanation for the weird title. Legohead Jo was a nickname from back in my youthful days. I used to have a severe red bob haircut, one day a friend described it as ‘like Lego hair’, then the name just stuck. 18 years later, it’s still used by my close circle of friends.
Why did I have it as a name to accompany my work? Well, when I completed ‘Best In Show’ series of work, I didn’t have a business, and it was my first solo exhibition; it was just meant to be fun, so as not to take myself too seriously. Which was kinda fine, due to the fact the exhibition was a range of embroidered dog portraits with trophies and sashes, all to be awarded to ‘the winners’! : D

A quote from the feature – “It's like even the simplest thing becomes an object of wonder to Legohead ... kind of like the way a dog might regard something novel. And it's a refreshing way to look at life.”

I hope never to take myself too seriously.

I have to say the past few years of drawing canines and felines, blogging, getting commissioned and generally working with fantastic people all over the globe has been an utter delight. I feel very grateful for my work and what I do.

Thanks for all the support so far, here’s to a great 2013 X X X

A recent commission. Harry, what a dude. x
